When there is some evidence that they have a substantially higher recidivism rate than other classes of offender. As of now, no such evidence exists.

Intelligent and mature people simply tell the truth, and worry about who may be "defended" by it or not afterward, if at all.

This is the usual hysterical nonsense being preached by the Oprah-O'Reilly brigade. It has no basis in criminology or any other social science. It is a remnant of the mentality that spurs riots and lynchings.

Why are sex offenders are placed on a public registry? Are other convicted felons placed on a registry that the public can access?

I do not see anyone defending this felon. Only those that use logic and reason AND NOT emotion.

Good thing our justice system is not based on emotion

Because the public is gullible and likes to be patted on the head and ensured that the authorities are "doing something". Whether what they are doing makes sense from an educated point of view is another question.

I've had this same thought. They keep a tight leash on sex offenders, put them on websites so you can see which of them lives near you, etc. So why are they but not other violent offenders? Imo, they should allbe treated the same. What good does it do me to know my neighbor on one side had sex when he was 17, yet have no clue a murderer lives on my other side?

No they shouldn't be treated the same.An Adult victim has a chance to defend himself at times,a child is usually encapable of defending themselves and in a lot of cases does not have the maturity to withstand the stress of dealing with the courts and the vile person that molested them.
