At least it took 140 years to get there, unlike folks like Che and others who tried to slammed the door shut on anyone wanting reform in government.

But, we all know what TJ said about the the blood of tyrants and patriots. Let's hope we don't have one of those kinds.

There is no reason why bible thumping, gun toting, anti-intellectual white guys can't gather in fortified compounds all over the nation.

Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest.

America needs to water the tree of liberty. Don't ya think that patriots would like to blow away liberals?

I don't think patriots will blow away anyone other than folks who try to force their will on others. I also think the only way they'll "like" it is if doing so makes them free.

Also, TJ was a (classical) liberal so it wouldn't be cool to blow them away. Progressives (a completely different beast), on the other hand...

The patriots have been victimized since Clinton. Just ask them, they are being screwed royal every day, from Clinton to Obama. How much longer are they going to take it?
When does the shooting begin?

Patience sweeheart. A very small % of the population aren't dumbed down. It takes time for people to get p1ssed, especially when incrementalism is the method used. It took a decade to really get the American revolution started. It took over a decade for a few German patriots to actually try and assassinate Hitler.

Our second amendment is not so much about fighting the government as it is about our government...behaving itself. The framers saw the value in a free and armed citizenry, thus making everybody equals on that level. The responsibility for the preservation of our nation is entrusted to us all. Should arms be required, the citizens are not denied them. The second amendment is often described as the 'teeth' in the Bill of Rights. The one that puts the steel in all the others. Appropriate. I truly believe that we, as American, have a duty to be proficient with arms, responsible with same, and to pass that tradition on. At the very least, one should have a good rifle at hand. Something suitable for service work. M1 Garand, M1A, AR 15, being ones at the top of the list, be skilled in its use, and know how to properly maintain it.

The 2nd Amendment exists because, at the time of the writing of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, a firearm was necessary for survival.

Also, because of the lack of long-distance communication and the spread-out nature of people back then, a militia was needed in addition to a standing army.

This is absolutely correct! They wanted the People to have control and the Government to fear the people, not the people to fear the government.

The only flaw with this WOULD be if the military followed the President, and not the Constitution. Because then what are 300 million people going to do against the Military... so with the military ties lieing with the public and Constitution, we actually would stand a chance in the event of a revolution.

Would be bad for farmers and college students to rise up and helicopters and snipers to mow them down...
