Do you still think off shore oil rigs are a great idea for your state? Do you really want to risk having your beaches marred by a never ending slick that WILL happen sooner or later- either by an accident or a hurricane knocking one of these platforms over.
Join with us in Georgia and North Carolina and let your Congressmen and Senators know that we do NOT want off shore drilling here. Let them know you oppose the Obama plan (which goes even further than Bush's old plan and will allow the platforms within 5 miles of the shore). Just say NO!

Actually, it's going west toward Louisiana, not east toward Florida.

As for your question, whether we prefer plentiful and inexpensive oil to power pretty much our entire economy and help provide prosperity and safety for us all, with the occasional (and rare) oil spill that comes with it.... over a country where energy is expensive and difficult to get, cramping the economy and making us beholden to countries that do not have our best interests at heart...

The answer is obvious. OF COURSE we prefer the former. An oil spill every 25 years, though unpleasant, is a small price to pay for the huge benefits oil (and offshore drilling) provides to us.

Is there anything else you are confused over, that I can help you with?

I have 2 cars and I would rather pay more for gas than have Tybee Island marred by an oil slick. The risk is not worth it.

Or ride a bus, or use plastic bags, or shampoo, or have carpeting, use the roads, or paint your walls in your home, fly in cars, use a credit card, play golf, use detergent, sit on toilet seats, use lipstick, support artificial limbs, etc

You get the picture.. Many have no clue of the number of items oil is in.

Had a Blowout Preventer (BOP) been installed, this wouldn't even have been an issue.

Are you willing to pay more for EVERYTHING you buy, or tell those with artificial limbs that they can go without, or will you go without brushing your teeth, ban parachutes, not use toilet seats, get rid of your telephones, never use insect repellant, and hair spray, etc?

The choice isnt if you are willing to pay more, its a drive or not drive.. are you willing to NOT DRIVE and walk everywhere?

Even worse, are you willing to have more of your money go to arab countries to support your daily life style?

Yeah it might be easy for you to pay more for gas but what about the folks cant?

I thought liberals cared about the poor? Do you think the people earning say 30k a year can afford that?

There are many thousands of oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. There are hundreds of oil tankers cruising around the globe. That does not mean every tanker is going to pull an Exxon-Valdez, nor does it mean rigs will explode on a regular basis. If Georgia and Florida want to pay a few dimes more per gallon of gas, let them.

Since such accidents cannot be avoided completely, maybe it would be a good idea to develop methods to deal with such accidents before expanding off-shore drilling.
