For all the remarks about the found fathers and slavery.. It appears thomas jefferson actually had a plan and wanted to free the slaves of virgina in 1800. Also took many steps on asking to change the system and thinking of the process to slowly remove the need for slaves. In fact didnt want any more slaves from Africa and was a voice to end the shipments of people.

Please read the information from this like on thomas jefferson on slavery.

Quotations on Slavery and Emancipation - Thomas Jefferson Encyclopedia

We have many laws in place in this country of which congress follows but want to change. Just as in 1964.
It wasnt easy to remove slaves when they were the working force but the objective was to remove slavery all together even with those who worked in government.

Liberals who are so against those who create the system of liberty must know even those they demonize say the evil that was slavery.

I am a pedophile. Yet, though I despise pedophilia it is at the same time so necessary for my present level of comfort. But someday, I plan to end pedophilia, as soon as I can find comfort from some other vise.

Needless to say, I am not impressed.

You are ONLY allowed to quote those sayings and writings of the founding fathers that reinforce current thought.
Anything that is NOT "Politically Correct" according to current thinking will be discounted as left or right wing ravings.

The TJ haters will always be jealous of a man they could never hope to become. They are the same folks who sheepishly state "the founding fathers gave us a great slate to start with, but we must 'evolve' from their neanderthal ways by radically changing the government to be the guardian of social justice"

The man owned many slaves and had no intention of letting them go.

It takes a very intelligent person, with strong resistance to peer pressure, to look at how things are, and imagine how they could be. This was the world he was born into. How many of you have thought about something that everyone around you believed, and decided it was wrong? It's not like he had the power to change society overnight. I'm sure his ideas evolved over time.

The progressives whine about TJ owning slaves, yet they're too cowardly to call our their Leader for his crimes concerning the unPatriot Act as well as attacking Pakistan.

A few of our founding fathers never owned a single slave. Thomas Jefferson was not one of them. The examples were all around him. Samuel Adams was given a slave and was supposed to have made the woman a member of his house hold for a year. That’s the equivalent of someone giving a farmer a $40,000 farm implement and he leaves it parked in his driveway.
TJ gets no reps from me. He could have done a lot more for Benjamin Banneker but IMO he didn't believe Blacks were truly equal to him.

Thomas Jefferson (and his family) built their wealth on the backs of Black slaves. He was able to "ponder and reason" because he had a vast workforce which he could use to do all of the heavy lifting needed to maintain his lifestyle.

In addition, he used one of his slaves (Sally Hemmings, who was also his wife Martha's half sister) for his carnal pleasure and gratification (and in turn increased his number of slaveholdings)

Thomas Jefferson was a man who lived a life full of contradictions. Who would be jealous of that legacy?

No one is arguing that Jefferson should have been the great emancipator just someone who lived his personal life as he preached it.

By the way, power to change it, dude was President.
