Sure, if they were born in that country. All this hyphenated crap has got to go.

With all due respect, the culture of genocide was much more proliferated in Africa than in Europe...

Even today,in the whole world, only in Africa u have genocides...The real thing...
Not Bosnia type killings with 8K dead, but Sudan -Darfur events with...1m dead...
So,yes,we admit,"we " uprooted u from the self destructive African culture & instilled on u the more benign, beneficial euro-american "white " christian culture...

The blacks should see the white Americans as benefactors, especially the post 1965 generations, who are genuine non racists...

After all,better an "uncle Tom" ( or a Bill Cosby ) than a Malcolm X or a Farrakhan,or a Rodney King,don't u agree..?

I am white but I have to pipe in here.

I do not use the term African American. It is a very broad term that can apply to whites from Africa as well.

Do most blacks in the US have any ties to Africa? Ancestrally maybe, but most of them are Americans, and people usually use the term "white" to refer to caucasians and not "European American", so I use the term black.

African American sounds much more respectable, black sounds pretty improper in my opinion, I don't like being called "black" nor "brother".

I prefer African American by a mile.

That's like saying a baby born as a result of rape who grows up to be a surgeon should thank the rapist for giving him a start in life!

BTW, the history of blacks in America is filled with white villains AND black villains.

I doubt blacks spend their day thinking about how whites perceive them!

What a ridiculous assertion, that genocide was more proliferated in Africa than Europe. Yes Africa had genocides, but Europe had them too and Europe unlike Africa exported genocide all over the globe.

Africa isn't the only place genocide takes place . It takes place in South Asia/Indian Subcontinent, S.E Asia, Middle East , South and Central America.

The US was also directly involved in the Mayan genocide that killed 600,000 Mayans during the cold war.

China is well known for their genocide of Uighurs and Tibetans and for support Arab Sudan in their genocide.

The US supported the Islamist Suharto regime of Indonesia when they waged genocide against the East Timorese.

Did you know Belgium killed over 10 millions Congolese and that Germany almost wiped out the Herrero ethnic group. Germany's genocide of the Hererro is seen as a prelude to the Holocaust, especially since Germans who took part in the Hererro genocide also provided their expertise during the Holocaust.

Some of the African genocides are conducted by Caucasoid Africans against Negroid Africans. I am talking about Arab and Berber slavery and genocide against Black Africans. In Sudan it is Arab Sudanese who are exterminating Black Sudanese. In places like Mauritania, an Arab minority rules over a Black and mixed Black-Arab majority . Mauritania still has slavery.

For you to say only in Africa there is genocide is just ignorant of the news and history.

I use both and have no problem being referred to by both, black and African American, interchangeably. Some people feel the word, "black", has a negative connotation. However, sometimes if many blacks were honest, they would say that don't intrinsically identify with the "African" in African American.

How about we stop dividing everyone into ethnic groups (as the lefties want to do) and call each other by our real names?

I refer to myself as both, but I prefer African-American over black. Black sounds bland and doesn't go into more detail on my ancestral lineage. Black is not my color anyway, I'm a medium tone brown. However, many Indians and Sri Lankans are darker than me or the same color, but are not refer to as black people by most. To me African-American is more of an ethnicity/cultural origin because the only people who call themselves AA are people who are descendants of Africans slaves in the USA.
