You mean they should just go to the back of the bus and be quiet?
Yes, it's wrong to blame ALL your failures on race but RACISM exists in the "great" "free" United States and to deny it is ignorant....and many failures can be placed on it's doorstep.
I don't think the OP was implying that anybody should "Go to the back of the bus and be quiet."
I understand that racism exists but a lot of folks are just plain tired of hearing the non-stop excuses that some people like to spew.
There was a job posted at work and there was fierce competition for it. An older white man with over 20 years experience got it. Several black co-workers pulled out the race card. They failed to think about the fact that they had MUCH less experience than the guy who got it. Less than 1/4 of what he had, yet all they could focus on was skin color.
That is the kind of thing I'm tired of hearing.
Nobody handed me my job and I'm a white female. I was turned down several times before I finally got it and it was because I worked hard for it. When I was turned down, I didn't whine that it was because I'm a female or white. I knew it was because somebody had more experience than I did. That's just life people.
At this point, I am seeing it come from white racists more than anyone else. The ones that whine about affirmative action or reverse racism. However, I am more tired of the racists who think they can continue to be biggots and accuse everyone who calls them on it of "playing the race card". Biggotry does exist and I am sick of the people who think they can brush it off by saying people are lying or "playing the race card". Using that term does not give you permission nor excuse your biggotry. I am successful and have never blamed racism or sexism for any personal shortcoming but I have witnessed racism with my own eyes so I know it happens more often than people would like to acknowledge, especially racists who don't admit (even to their self) that they are racist.

OK, nice examples.....now add millions of examples of racial discrimination that ended with blacks not getting the promotion or the job BECAUSE OF their skin color which HAPPENED in our history... the discrimination did NOT change until people got real loud about it....raised hell.....now the "troublemakers" help to keep people aware and on their toes....it is so easy to backslide if everyone quietly goes to the back of the bus...
It makes me feel better to side with the voice of reason, especially when no evidence exists to the contrary. Like I said: got tin foil hat?
Uh, a University of Chicago STUDY showed that stereotypical African American and Latino names were far less likely to be called back then standard anglo or "white" names.
I am tired of whining period. As evidenced in this thread, the only thing it actually accomplishes is even more whining! Life is not perfect, for ANYONE.
You explain to me the University of Chicago study that PROVED that "African American" and "Latino" names on a resume significantly lowered your chances of a call back? If your name is Tyrone, you are far less likely to be offered the same job Mark would be offered.
The fact is that racism in employment is STILL rampant, and denying it is just plain ignorance.
Not to mention those that "sounded" black were/are less likely to get an apartment lease.
Yet, here in my area a local TV station asked the same question. They had two of their employees, one black male in a "white" neighborhood, one white in a "black" neighborhood, flag people down with a gas can indicating they needed a ride. People in both neighborhoods were about equally eager to help. As I recall, they filmed and timed each occurrence.
Todays young college tykes are nothing but complainers and whiners who DEMAND things be given to them a certain way. I hope they realize that most of them will be failures with that attitude. Racism is only a tool they use to force society to give them what they want since they can't do it the old fashioned way and EARN IT!
"Tin foil hat" is an expression best reserved for outlandish cosnpiracy theories, e.g. chemtrails, continuing war in Afghanistan is Obama's attempt to decimate the white race.
The thought that if there are three guys with similar credentials; one named Mark, one named Tyrone, and one named Hector all applying for the same job, and Mark is more than likely to get the call back, doesn't seem outlandish to me. I don't know if it's true or not, but would it really be that "tin-foil hat"-ish?
