Only "everyone else is stupid but me" saggy and "you all are racists" WhoMe. So, basically nobody important is actually defending them. It's pretty much unanimous in opposition.
Yes, they are all so greedy, these people who just recently voted 402-15 to deny themselves even a tiny pay increase next year. Ever looked at a graph of Congressional salaries in constant dollars? It's fallen by about 30% over the past 40 years.

yawn. The local farmers' market makes their own soda. No advertising costs from them to me, period.
Do you walk to the farmers' market? What do you use to carry home those precious bottles or other containers that themselves were not organically grown by local farmers? Do your local farmers use any form of energy at all in the manufacture of this product? Is this in fact the only product that you use or consume? Face it. You are on the net. You are plugged in. Advertisers of all sorts are sucking the money out of your pockets every day and using it to produce even more of those obnoxious ads that seemingly everyone despises. Billions and billions of dollars worth of them every year, and you still want to whine over a crummy million dollar raise for an underpaid Congress.

I noted several charateristics of this rogues-gallery of parasites. One of them is, well it is not PC to go down that road, but.....

Congresspersons are grossly underpaid. If you got the same compensation per unit of difficulty, challenge, and responsibility that they do, your annual salary would be like $4.60.
These people are hacks who do what their leadership does. When you speak to them, or listen to them speak, it is like you are in some sort of "brain-freeze" zone. Like when Obama speaks sans teleprompter. Babbles like a fool.
Look at what a joke congress is, and has been for a long while now. If anything, the only thing they deserve is to be voted out of their job. Barring that, they should vote themselves a deep pay cut!
Well, I keep hearing how 47% of people don't pay any income taxes anyway, so they wouldn't have been affected by the raise in any case. And it's not just you and not just Pepsi. Advertising is a multi-billion dollar industry and every penny of it is sucked out of consumers' pockets in the form of prices that are higher than what they would need to be otherwise. There is no actual difference between consumers and taxpayers, you know. Same bunch. But the bottom line is you don't mind paying many billions for advertising, but are all jacked up over a million for Congress. Makes sense...

What responsibility do you have that is 1/37,826th as important as what Congress deals with every day? Has your boss asked you to rescue any global economies lately? How about coming up with a plan to reorganize health insurance for 307 million people...is that in your performace plan? Dealing with any Israeli/Palestinian conflicts after lunch today? How about Iran or North Korea? How about all of those at the same time and then ten times more?
Pay is not tied to responsibility. If that were the case, nurses and pharmacists would be half a mill a year, doctors would be making a million plus per year, and airline pilots even more then them. Heck a bus driver would be rolling in the dough. A lawyer would make $50k, a company CEO 100k, etc.

microsoft can't force me to pay taxes, but the government can and does, and i have no say in how my money is then spent. that is why they can give themselves raises in an economic downturn - because they don't have to be accountable.
