1. I hope so. A reason I went with option 2.
2. No, unless we want to be in a leadership role. We can't be pushing our agenda and expect equal or greater support from the rest.
3. Yes, of course.
4. We should go for logic based solutions, not emotional. If it requires sacrifices, so be it. Fiscal conservatism/responsibility are not without compromises.

It could obviously be managed much better. I've seen some horrible waste and abuse, just as you'd see with any large corp. Sadly, when their are cuts, it's the combat units that get hit the hardest. No money for training, class 9, re=enlistment bonuses, it goes on and on. The clinton years were indeed dark years for the military and were almost like
sanctions aganst combats arms MOS's.
I do think cuts are in order but I don't think military brass is responsible enough to spread it around.

Nice antimilitary/antiamerican thread...

A realistic reduction of 5 to 10% will not affect the budget a lot.

USA needs structural changes...

Termination of SS/Medicare programs,
individual retirement program mandates,
retirement age to 70,
reduction of the gov sector by 50%

We could cut our military budget in half and still spend more than all our "enemies" combined.

cut it in half! Why do we have 700 bases around the world? Then we claim not to be an "Empire"! Why are we building a $125 million Embassy in Iraq? People complain about the stimulus bill or the healthcare bill yet the Defense Department sucks us dry every year and a one year Defense budget alone would have paid for either program!

If you terminate SS and Medicare you do know that the deficit get's worse, not better.

If u understood english,u could read the next line about mandated individual retirement accounts...to substitute SS

The debt wil increase & it will be financed by T-bills...

All nations & countries survive over the centuries by accumulating debt &...forgiving it...

To stay within the subject,we need a strong military & more interventions...Iran,Cuba,possibly N. Korea...

We lose it ( money),at least let's use it ( military)...
