That is true, they are not "obligated." But because we have a very liberal, non-coercive system, the Census Bureau accepts information from neighbors in preference to prosecuting every moron who doesn't return his questionnaire.
umm well, today this sweet old lady knocks at the door and asks the 10 questions .. well sort of .. NAMES of all childrend and birthdates of all adults and children ....I dont think they need ALL that info .. .. I could care less if they need answers or not not my problem I pay my taxes .. vote for the President, mind my own buisness Homeschool and pay my bills I take issue with the names and dob on the kids and male or female .. .. far as I am concerned they should take say child #1 ect age ___ and be done with it.. I dont think this is really to just check census.. but because we are getting increasingly militarized we give info that can be tapped for future needs of the Gov. I just told the lady that we had issues with the census as it was written and declined to give more info .. ..
yes I am a jerk sometimes but .. sorry this is the first time I have ever felt the info wasnt needed .. Now since I was warned that some one will be back to help us fill out the papers I will make a point to have a list of non-names and ages and dates they can just copy .. .. PPPFFTTT.. .. My daughter said they were gonna come back and arrest me for refusing .. I guess they could and then I would be a political prisioner that proved that the censeus is not what it seems ..LOL

Do your kids not have birth certificates, brainiac? Do you not get that the Census records are protected by confidentiality in a way that birth certificates are NOT?

Why would the state government be dumb enough to let all the benefits go? They're like hawks they'll make sure they get you to represent the state, they went off the hook for the census this year. They constantly kept bothering me to fill mine in.
well Sir, I have always been confident in giving the last 4 censuses takers the info but the changes in this years and how our country has changed makes me think wth coperate .. they already have that info as you made a not so gracious point to explaining to me .. After all I am just a old lady who has tried to be a good American but since retirement and the chance to really look at some of the things I have ingored for years I didnt think they needed it .. I did give my name it hasnt changed in 45 yrs.. I did give my date of birth as asked .. names and ages of the children in my care? NO .. I gave info to a point but her need for names and sex and ages .. naw they dont .. and Sir, please be aware that .. the gov. can and have misused confidential records befor .. .. The census really hasn't changed in fact it generally asks fewer questions than those in recent decades.
