Most of our nation's debt came from this war, which was a mistake, which we had to pay to rebuild Iraq, after hanging their leader. I must know because i see alot of threads that point at Obama as if he's the reason, when Bush is clearly the biggest mistake we have ever made in any election!!!
It's basic politics when something goes wrong for the right, they just blame someone else for causing it. 8 years of the farthest right administration this country has ever seen and still they can't accept the fact that they screwed up the country beyond believe.
When the left screws up, they admit it and come a resolution. When the right messes up, they throw a tantrum and create things such as the tea party.

your whole premise starts off wrong

untrue...we had a nearly 6 trillion dollar debt (5.87 trillion) the day bush took office, left over from clinton and the admins before him

Government debt is the only way a devastating depression could have, and was avoided. Debts can be paid but a complete failure of the finance and banking systems might have broken the world's economy for decades. How would we trade with ourselves let alone the rest of the world if everybody’s money lost all value?
That would have been interesting enough to observe I kind of regret that Obama didn't just let it collapse and then replaced it with a rational socialist based economy. Yeah, I would have liked that.
One more deficit chart back to 1980. Note - Republicans Congress took over in 1994. War in 2001. Rebuilding thru 2006. Democrats took over Congress in 2007. And of course Obama in 2009.

The budget deficit was already sharply declining prior to the GOP taken over. This came about because of the five year budget plan in 1993 passed without a single GOP vote (1993 Omnibus Reconciliation Act).

The short-memoried, easily fooled right wingers are being told by their media that under George Bush the US was in debt by something trim like $500B, and that Obama is responsible for most US debt. "Wild, irresponsible spending," "porkulus" and so on are some of the catchphrases that have been drilled into them.
