There is nothing wrong with taking the good from either approach and rejecting the bad. In fact, that is only what this country has been doing, with a great deal of success, for over a century.
The real danger to this country is not the mixture of capitalist and socialist ideas that have made it a success, but the extremists - Left and Right.
I want to see a country run on logic and sound social and economic policy, not outdated ideology and stupid talking points. If logic dictates that we have to adopt some policies that may seem socialist to some, then we should do that regardless of ideology.
Ideology is intellectual poison. As Nietzsche said: "Convictions are more dangerous enemies of the truth than lies."
Socialism, capitalism, and kind of Ism aren't per se threats to the well-being of the nation, but slavish adherence to ideology certainly is.
Obama is about as "middle of the road as it gets"? What the hell?
I guess when you are that far left, anything short of Mao looks conservative. Keep in mind that Obama had THE MOST LIBERAL VOTING RECORD of any senator in the senate. Now how, in your right mind, can you call that "middle of the road" when he was the farthest left senator? Let's face it- he is a far left president, just as he was a far left senator. One does not grow up associating with and idolizing marxists and suddenly become "middle of the road". To assume he is nothing more than a marxist defies logic and ignores his current policy and past voting record.
