Or maybe a little more culpable since he opened more off shore drilling. If he was going to do that he had a responsibility to make sure it was safe.

A government responding to a natural or man-made disaster that has affected some or all of it's citizens, is not something people are talking about when they say they don't want big government. People who oppose big government aren't opposed to all government....what's necessary to create (add to) and maintain the country's infrastructure is everyone expects and wants.

AS much as I dislike Obama and almost everything he has done so far, I agree. Gov. needs to step away from business! This is BP's problem and they need to fix it. The gov can fine them for the ecological disaster but back off otherwise! Give help in trying to figure out a way to stop the leak? Yes. Give help in the clean up? Yes. And then bill BP for every $$ spent.

Lack of any federal response.

1. No immediate coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers to create barriers on the coasts and the marshes

2. No coordination with coastal states for physical removal of oil and barrier preparation

3. No organization to contract and deploy oil skimmer for clean up

4. Lack of the use of naval technology to stop the leak

5. Lack of preparation for creating contingencies and aid to those who have lost jobs as a result.

In short- incompetence. But this is what DEFINES Obama- incompetence. The scary thing is that it is a reflection of his inablity to act. What happens with a real crisis hits, or a major terrorist attack? We will be defenseless and on our own with this clown at the helm. He is more concerned with meeting Paul McCartney than tending to the buisness of the nation.

So we have the governor of AZ stepping up on immigration..a Federal matter.
And now we have the governor of LA stepping up on coastal disaster control..another Federal matter.

So while the Dems seem to enjoy being in power in DC..they seem to just want to stay in DC writing up bills and doing press releases and forming committees.

When it comes to reaction to a crisis they don't know what to do except..hold more press releases, form more committees and think about writing up more bills.

I will admit this is taking too long to get done (37 days in counting). BP should of had only a week to plug that pipe.

At the same time, I believe if Obama would of said I'm giving BP 1 week to fix it. I can hear them (Republicans) right now on FOX. "Too much governement, Obama even wants to tell the Oil companies what to do!" "This is their problem, let them fix it!"

Damn if you do, Damn if you don't..

I don't think the Fed would know how to stop the oil from spewing.

But they do know about cleanups and they do have the job of overseeing that.
Why is no one commenting on that part..the cleanup that IS the job of the Fed and it's agencies ?

One thing government needs to figure out is where are we going to get the money to take care of all those people who make their living from the gulf. The marsh and the wild life is a sad thing......but there are millions of real people who are going to loose everything. It seems to me that this is one area where the government can step in now before it becomes a bigger problem than they can handle.

The Fed and Obama should be out front and center in the clean-up efforts. So far it's been a very paltry and lukewarm response... lots of governmental red tape, and no action. THIS is why people are upset at Obama. He's out helping his colleagues campaign, going on vacations, and applauding the Mexican president while he slams our laws in our country. All the while, the oil is starting to reach our coastlines and it appears that there is NO coordinated clean-up effort from the Feds. This raises serious questions about Obama's priorities.

BP probably does have the intellect and resources to control and stop this leak better than the Feds, but Obama allows them to limit our access to evaluate the TRUE extent of the problem. How can we prepare if we have no idea the true extent of this catastrophe? BP is refusing to share information and data that it is already tracking that would assist the Feds in understanding the extent of the resources we will need for clean-up efforts, and Obama is giving them the green light to continue doing so.

Maybe because he is the president, and he is the person in charge. It his his responsibility to see to it that the spill is contained and cleaned up, that any potential environmental damage is mitigated, and he also tasked with ensuring that coordination between the federal and state government is going smoothly.

To break it down to you, by law, the president is the one ultimately responsible to mitigate, contain and clean up the spill, passing the buck to BP will not suffice, no matter how many boots are applied to their throats.
