The incident in Korea should show the American people the folly of buying Chinese goods. China's refusal to publicly recognize N.Korea’s blame in a situation that could lead to possible nuclear war is inexcusable. The trading policies the U.S. has implemented over the past two decades is directly responsible for the increase in China's wealth and world standing. We see now that China's foreign policies are still as anti-west as they have ever been, and that they consider N.Korea their ally against the west. We should therefore not fool ourselves and alter our trade policies with regard to China to recognize that they are not a friend or an ally, and that we strengthen their position at our own peril.

Great idea. Just one question. Who is going to fund our $13 trillion debt?

What I am talking about is a grass roots citizen’s movement, not government policy. If the Chinese stopped buying our treasuries it would actually be a good thing as it would force the Federal government to curb spending, I really do not think they will curb spending until they are forced to.

If we stop purchasing Chinese made goods the prices of the products we do buy would skyrocket and the Chinese would have fewer dollars to fund our debt. How about the government stop spending money and we get our house in order so we won't be held hostage by China?

The point I am trying to make is that this problem is becoming less an economic problem and more an issue of National Security. What we are doing in reality is strengthening our enemies. Do you realize part of every dollar you spend on Chinese goods goes to support N.Korea and to fund the same nuclear program that threatens our allies and ourselves. At the rate they are going in a few years N.Korea will have the ability to hit San Francisco with a nuclear missile, they already have the ability to hit Hawaii. They are also exporting that technology to our other enemies. Is that really worth saving $5 or $10 dollars on a toaster?

I believe our deficit is a much more serious national security problem. We have no leverage over China we can't go toe to toe with them diplomatically because they are funding our government.

I do my best to not buy Chinese-made goods. However, it amazes me how hard that actually is. Do we manufacture anything in America anymore?

Good luck trying to buy stuff not made in China. Probably about 95% of the stuff in your house right now is Chinese, unless you go out of your way to look at labels.

I definitely do look at labels. I find it hard to boycott China because, as you mentioned, its nearly impossible to do. I find it shameful and embarrassing as an American to be completely beholden to another country because of our own vanities and excesses. Because lets be honest, that's what it comes down to. We want the best. We want the cheapest. And we want it NOW. I try to be an optimist, but the realist in me says that we've shot ourselves in the foot and we're bleeding out very slowly.
