Rachel and the OP feel that playing the blame game will get us some where.

I wonder how the OP got to work this morning, possibly in his gas powered car?? Is solar power running his PC?

It's tragic what is going on our Gulf. But like kevcrawford said, it was the environmentalists that forced the government to make more regulations that pushed these oil rigs further from shore and into deeper water.

We need to move away from foreign oil first (since we lost thousands of troops in the Iraq war and we know that was all about oil). Then we need to find ways to reduce the US oil consumption. When prices were $4 a gallon everyone was freaking out. Now as prices fall below $2.50, it's hardly mentioned on the news. But we will always need oil, no matter how we power our transportation in the future.

For the record, I drive a Civic Hybrid, have a solar water heater (plan to go all solar in the next year or so), have all "curly" light bulbs and I recycle (I have to take my recyclables to a recycle center, don't have pickup). I'm also a conservative. At least I'm trying instead of always pointing fingers.

When someone points out the FACTS they are not "playing the blame game." It is no game. Blame attaches from actual action and inaction taken by both BP and our government over the decades. Greed and corruption has created a scenario in which we are destroying the earth. The earth is not disposable and unless people break down and accept that fact we really are doomed. I know that isn't what people want to hear and some folks will just put their fingers in their ears and say "la, la , la" loudly to block out the truth. However, their inability to grasp the truth doesn't make it go away.

You sound like someone that is ecologically responsible and yet you, as others do, refuse to accept the fact that we are being played like fiddles by Big Oil and other corrupt corporations. The money that has been invested to make them richer by explorinng deeper and more invasive drilling techniques was done without a thought to investing in technology and research to prevent such tragedies.

We are not "destroying the Earth". The planet will survive no matter what we do for another 10 billion years or so. We, by either our ignorance or misbehavior, may make the planet less habitable by humans but that will not matter to the planet. That may matter to a lot of humans.
