I'm sure all of us, mainly us that tend to post in the City vs City section, know that Texas has grown exponentially over the past few decades. Will these new residents, who tend to come from strongly blue states such as CA-IL-NY turn the largest red state blue by 2012? 2020?

What about immigrants?

The fastest growing population in Texas is Hispanic and they have no reason to vote Republican. Aren't all the major cities already "blue." Historically Texas was a strongly democratic state. It wasn't until Johnson kicked the racists out of the Democratic Party that the Republicans got traction in the state.

Texas was won by McCain with a 10 point margin in the absolute worst year for Republicans. It is not going blue any time soon. To say Texas has a future as a blue state is like saying California will go red, it is not possible in the context of the current political climate.

What does Texas do to ensure that only legal, eligible people are allowed to vote? I suspect that a lot of the people from CA/NY/etc moving to TX are doing so to escape the liberal hellholes thier states have become. As such they may well be the staunchest defenders of individual rights and freedoms of all. As such I suspect that Texas may actually go more "red". At least that seems to be what is happening in MOST of my state.

I have no idea why it MUST be that Latinos MUST be Democrats. The only Latinos in Texas that consistently vote Democrat are the poor and uneducated ones who are the former Mexican underclass.

All the major cities are pretty much blue already.

Austin, Dallas, and the border counties are traditionally Democratic. I'd be surprised if Lubbock & the Panhandle ever went blue.

Austin is the fastest growing area in Texas, and it sure as hell isn't going red. I really don't think Texas will become a Democratic state anytime soon. However I do think Democrats will become more competitive on the Congressional level and could pick up more seats that way, especially considering the fact its virtually impossible to gerrymander Texas as more GOP friendly than what Delay did a few years back.

If so, they will definitely vote blue.
