Oh-oh.... guess that means she must have been an "illegal"!

Tell me about it. If we can't get someone with some real economic sense in office (like a Palin) in 2012, I fear for the future of this nation. The way things are going, we might just pull out of this W depression in 10 years or so. We need a Palin/Nugent administration (and all the illiteracy and ineptitude that would bring) to really finish 'er off.

It is great to see so many quoting scripture.

=Dopo;14496975]Jesus clearly says it in the Bible,
"give your money to the poor and follow me (Jesus)"

If the government is supposed to be Christian (anti-abortion, anti-gay),
then the government should give money to the poor.
What? Are you kidding? What country do you live in? The USA gives PLENTY to the poor. Ever heard of social programs? Welfare?

Quote:
21Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
You apparently missed the other thread that went into great detail about this.

Here's the thing: Back in Jesus' day, Jesus promised a seat in the sky if you traded your wealth in to help the poor. Back then, if you believed in Jesus, you'd probably believe that would happen b/c Jesus was curing people left and right by laying his hands on them...even turned water to wine...right in front of your face.

Obama and Nancy Pelosi ain't Jesus and they can't promise a damn thing. See, us Christians evolved. Who's healing the blind and rising from the dead these days? Christians believe in the teachings, but it's all faith. Which is why we'd like to keep our money....for our own kids. Just in case we get screwed.

We ain't the crazies strapping on suicide vests for a few virgins or living like it's 500AD (COVER UP WOMAN!)

So, let's get over the fact that this isn't biblical times but it really isn't a bad thing to live by the "general" teachings (all the "thou shalt not" s) in any day or age.

Based on what you are saying, conservatives are sending people to hell
The "poor", back then, didn't live in the USA where all you need to do is get off your sorry behind and get a job. Today, you can NOT have kids that you can't afford by using birth control. Today, you can get a public education (it's all free) if you stay in school through the 12th grade. Today, you can even go to college and take out student loans to help you if your mamma and pappa spent all their money on booze and butts.

What does Jesus say about people who happily take from those who make?

Funny thing is that when you take a look at the states that get more money from the Feds than they send in taxes...you'll see states like Alabama and Mississippi. You won't see California or New York. The liberals are pulling the weight of the conservatives.

And then you brag about how these conservative states have low taxes..thats easy to pull off when you accept welfare from the Feds (when no one is looking of course. They'll turn down stimulus money when eyes are watching.).

Matthew 19 - Passage*Lookup - New International Version - BibleGateway.com

They don't. Conservatives give to charity to a much greater extent than liberals.

I guess the question is why do liberals ignore the call of Christ to give to the poor?

I think that once again, a liberal has confused charitable voluntary contributions with forced government confiscation and redistribution of wealth, which does not necessarily go to the poor, but to the democrat's friends.

When you talk about the miracle of the loaves and fishes I think the most important part is left out.Right after feeding a multitude of people,Jesus entered a boat and went to the other side of lake Galilee? and lo and behold what did he see there? He saw people from that same multitude that he just fed.
Jesus told them that they did not come seeking the word of God but was there to get fed.And that they should seek spiritual food for the soul.Of course Jesus having sympathy for the multitude repeated the miracle and fed the people. But then he sent everyone back to there house and consider that there was a drought and great famine in the land.Notice that Jesus did not set up a socialist program where the people showed up expecting to get fed every day.

Because Christians give to Christ and let Christ give to the poor.
That way, HE gets the credit or glory and not them.
That way people are thankful to Him.
Who in their right mind wants a THIEF to steal their money so he can give it to the poor?
They earned their money and should be able to GIVE, not be robbed.
Guess you have watched Robin Hood to many times.
Guess this is why so many people thought Obama would pay their bills and he became the Messiah of so many.
Most conservatives are Christians. They want to give from their hearts and not have their gift stolen.

This is why separation of Church and State is important. The government simply cannot do the work of the Church. What the government does is steal - it forgot about the "Thou shalt not steal" and forced charity isn't charity at all - charity is freely given by the individual.
