One of the car magazines just tested a Boxster S, base was 60K, price as tested was 84K! Im sorry but 84K for a Boxster is INSANE!
I read the same article last month and had the same reaction. When I saw that I was just astonished because although it has far superior handling than it's predecessors; at that price range, they are breaking into their 911 market; let alone the other markets (ie: Corvette, GTR, Elise, Evora S, etc).
Porsche always understates their 0-60 mph times. You can usually subtract .2 to .3 seconds off that. Even so, you don't buy a Boxster or Cayman to drive really fast in a straight line. If you want to go fast in a straight line, get a motorcycle.
A Cayman powered identically to a Carrera would outrun a Carrera on the track. In fact, a Cayman S already can lap the Nordschleife a tick faster then a Carrera. The Cayman is the "proper" sports car and if Porsche would give it more power there would be a lot of Carrera owners staring at "poor man's" taillights.
Ahem. It's not "more power" - it's "better driver". A good driver in a Cayman > good driver in base Carrera. I'd venture to say that most (Ok, vast majority) Carrera owners = not as good a driver as they think they are...
