My husband and I are moving to the Treasure Coast in August because of a new job my husband got in Ft. Pierce. When we went to Ft. Pierce we weren't really crazy about living there. We did really like Vero Beach, but those are the only 2 areas I've been in.
While looking for apartments, I've found a couple nice ones in Pt. St. Lucie, and Stuart. What would you think the best town for a late 20's married couple (no kids, 3 dogs, I'm an artist & bartender, like beach life, relaxing, parks, stuff to do) to move to? What are the towns we should stay away from? Anything would be helpful really!
Thanks!

To be closer to the beach I would recommend Stuart and Jensen Beach. Vero is OK, but feels very disconnected from the world to me.

However, commuting to Fort Pierce will be difficult from Jensen Beach. What is your commuting tolerance? Maybe Tradition in Western Port St. Lucie or St. Lucie West is a good spot to look? You'll be 20 minutes from the beach though.....

There's a lot more to Vero Beach than the Island, come across the bridge. It's very much connected to the real world on the mainland.

I just had a young couple move from NJ and he is going to work for the Coast Guard in Ft Pierce. He chose living here in western Port St Lucie after looking in Vero and Ft Pierce. The commute is easy, right up I95. They are both in their 20's with a young son. His words were.....this area has the best of everything I wanted for my family and it's still easy for me to get to work.

Being near the water here would mean Jensen or Stuart which was already mentions , but it is extremely hard to get out of to anywhere. I used to live in Jensen Beach myself. Now that I am in western PSL... I would not move back. Everything is at my fingertips and a trip to the beach is not a big deal compared to the daily drive you would have.

Jensen is only 20 minutes from Ft. Pierce. Not much of a commute.

depends on where he is going in Ft Pierce, the construction that is ongoing on US#1 and all the stop lights on the way, plus time of day.

I'd vote for Vero Beach, but then again I'm biased....been here for 21 years. Small wealthy town, pristine beaches, great restaurants, light traffic, great live theatre, excellent shopping, low crime......there is no place in Florida I'd rather be.

You're right... assuming you go straight up Indian River Drive, downtown Fort Pierce is about half an hour away, assuming you then don't have to go to Western Fort Pierce to work.

However, it can take more than half an hour from some places in Port St. Lucie to Jensen Beach, especially during god awful traffic time on US-1, and the nearest exit to I-95 from jensen is... what? Kanner Highway?

Of course, I have a five minute commute, so to me anything over about 15 minutes is brutal.
