How much do you need to make a year with a family of 3 to live comfortably? In the treasure coast, Martin county, St.Lucie etc

That's a hard question to answer without knowing "how" you want to live. I can say it is cheaper to rent and own a home in Ft. Pierce.

It really depends on what you do for a living and what your idea of comfortable is. For a two bedroom rental you are looking at about 650-800 per month (just an estimate), own for about 125,000-150,000.
Do you currently live in FL or are you relocating?
Go to this website (local newspaper) > > tcpalm.com
You can search for jobs, apartments, homes for sale, etc.
Good luck!

if you want to be able to afford the mortgage on your standard 3/2/2 sans swimming pool ($200,000 - 250,000) in either of these towns and maybe go on vacation once a year for a couple of days, you need to make at least $70,000 - $80,000 a year. and i'm assuming you have great credit because otherwise the mortgage companies will laugh at you. i have lived in psl for 7 years and our household income had just made it to $45000 annually and i still can't afford to buy a decent house here. the best i can do on a mortgage here would be no greater than 165,000. believe me. you could buy something in this price range, but you won't want to put your family there. needless to say, my husband intends to continue to sharpen his skills so that he can get a better paying job/promotion in order to be able to buy/build a house here.

Fort Pierce is probably your best value for your money IMO. You can get a nice condo or single family home in a safe neighborhood for a lot cheaper than Martin County. PSL is a little more expensive but it also has some affordable housing, particularly since the housing bubble burst.
There's a lot of haters on this board that like to say FP is crime-ridden but don't listen to them. FP is a city like any other, and every city has good and bad neighborhoods. In fact, FP's bad areas are more isolated from the rest of the City than most cities in the U.S.

I would say starting at 90k a year. the housing has skyrocketed in the last five years. And so did home insurance and taxes. People who purchased homes 5 years ago and before can afford to make less than 90k.
Ft. Pierce has nice areas and depressed ares as well. I will stronly suggest to spend an entire week checking out the area you are thinking to move.
If you can not afford to spend a week doing so THEN do not make that move.
Only my opinion.
Regards,

Ft. Pierce will be cheaper than PSL for rent.
To live modestly, I'd say you shouldn't spend more than about 30% of your income on housing. At 28k, that's about $700/month in rent. For a family of three, you'd want at least 2 bedrooms. You might want to check the newspaper for private listings (or Craigslist.com).
I did an apartmnent search and found at least one complex in Ft. Pierce offering 2 bedrroms in that price range:
Sabal Chase Apartments
100 Corner Dr.
Fort Pierce, FL 34947
Apartments.com - Community Glance
Good luck!

if you make 28k with a family of 3, then you qualify for "limited income housing" and there are a lot of those in FL. basically you will pay $500 in place of $1000 or something very close.
