I don't know if you've ever been to Vero Beach, or this area in general, but I presume that if you've pretty much settled on this area, you have. Therefore I tend to dis-agree that one month is not enough time. I have clients that fly in for 3 days and select a home. As for things taking a long time, this depends on if you're paying cash or financing. And things ARE moving here. My office did $9,000,000 in closings in the month of Dec. and the "season" is not even here yet. And you'd have no problem renting in the summer. The other response was correct about the separate MLS services. And it really is a large area to cover. You want to choose a Realtor that knows the area you want to be in. Let me be the first to say...welcome to Florida! Although I do like Newport in the summer!!!

Jim,

My husband and I made the move in May. We rented a condo at Ocean Village in Fort Pierce (on Hutchinson Island) on the beach on a month to month basis. We had a two bedroom condo and only paid 1200.00 plus electric per month.

We did purchase a house in Port Saint Lucie but it was a short sale and took over three months before we went to settlement.

We are happy with our move and even with the frustration of the short sale it was worth it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, all, for the helpful advice. Can't wait to get down there. It was 9 degrees here this morning! I'm ready for some Florida weather.

I know what you mean about Newport. I spent a summer there (seems like a hundred years ago but it was only 1976) for some schooling when I was in the Marine Corps. Good times!
