Default Time for investment in real estate? Feedback?

Hi,
My family and I live in NJ and we're thinking ahead...in 10 years, the 3 kids will be out of college and my husband and I will be ready to leave our hectic, EXPENSIVE lifestyle behind. We love the beach and we're tired of the snow. Thinking of making an investment NOW in a beach community that's not too far from an urban/job center. (My husband is in Finance/Banking and I am a freelance writer. ) Our plan would be to rent out our investment property until it's time to move on a permanent basis.

Would love to get feedback on the best beach communities with good proximity to city/jobs. Also, wondering if there's any info out there on the current rental market for this type of property in the Port St Lucie/Vero Beach area.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

The Port St Lucie rental market is hot right now. Good houses go on and off the market in a matter of days. Reason? People who are in foreclosure or short sales can't buy and must rent, plus I am seeing a large number of people moving in to or back to this area. I have calls all day long, every day.

Can't help you with Vero but I'm sure someone else here will.

If things are moving that quickly is it fair to assume that the rental listings on a site like Realtor.com will not be current?

Realtor.com was never current even in a normal market....

an example.. 5 bedroom at $1499 was gone in one day. 4 bedroom for $1100 had 6 offers on it.

That's good to know. Thank you. We will be moving to the PSL/Vero area in about 18 months and have been doing most of our research on Realtor. It's disappointing that that is not a reliable source. Do you have other suggestions for a better resource? Appreciate your help.

I'm going to chuckle... read my name.

No advertising iis allowed in the forms so I can't say anything except that Realtors have the most up to date info..

Good point. You know what's funny? Last night my wife and I did a quick scan of Zillow and came to the conclusion that when we move there will be no substitute for a knowledgeable realtor to help us find our retirement home. You're first on the list, FlaLadyB.
