"On Thursday, the heirs of the town’s founders officially sold the 45-acre park to Carefree RV Resorts of Arizona for $16.5 million.
“They are just waiting for the title,” said James Morgan of Treasure Coast Commercial Real Estate, who represented the heirs. “There is no reason I can think as to why the sale wouldn’t go through.”
The specific terms of the purchase were not available Thursday.
Carefree RV Resorts is a private company that owns about 60 communities with more than 13,000 sites in Arizona, Florida, Texas, California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina and Canada.
The sale was finalized a month after Carefree owner Charles Ellis asked for and received an extension to inspect the property.
According to a June 11 Scripps Treasure Coast Newspaper article, Ellis said he needed more time to investigate the potential for groundwater contamination from an old landfill adjacent to the park. The former landfill is an undeveloped parcel west of the railroad tracks and not part of the small, riverfront-park just south of Jensen Beach Boulevard along Indian River Drive.
Results of the inspection were not available Thursday.
The fate of the park has been in limbo the past five years." -tcpalm
