This is my first Autumn living on the Treasure Coast, and it seems like the ocean has had high surf for most of November. Is this typical for Autumn, or is it usually calmer ? The water temperature is still warm (to me) at almost 80 degrees, but of course I am not venturing into the ocean past ankle depth when I go beachcombing now. Will the surf be this active until Spring ?

Summer unless there is a hurricane out in the ocean is pretty flat.We always refer to it as Lake Atlantic in June and July. Surfing is usually better in Autumn and during the winter months.

The waves the other day were pretty big, though.

Thanks Rabflmom. Yep, it was like a lake in July ! It was so pleasant to be gently bobbing up and down in the waves ! The first time we visited Vero Beach, in January of 2012, the surf was fairly flat too - though it was too chilly for swimming.
