Treasure Coast (Port St. Lucie, Jupiter, Vero Beach: home owners insurance, houses, schools)

Hello!
I'm looking for opinions / information on the "Treasure Coast". We are going to the area to look at houses soon! Is it a nice place to live? What are the locals like? Is it mostly retirees or a mix? (we are in our 30s with a 6 yr old son). Has the area been hit by hurricanes? (comparably speaking to other areas of FL). Is home owners insurance / flood insurance expensive in this area? How are the schools? What are the best beaches in Treasure Coast that I should visit while I am down? Thanks in advance for any information you'd like to share.

Port Saint Lucie has an 'average age' of people living there, 40yrs old.
Lots of young families, too.. Friendly neighbors..

Yes snow-birds too. Come down from the Freezing winters up north.

(snow-birds)=northeners that head for Fla. every winter to enjoy the Beautiful weather.
