Moving to Port St. Lucie in September. We want to rent for a year before buying. Would like suggestions where to look. Prefer apartment buildings rather than single family home.

We rented at Pine Lakes, off Prima Vista, now called Apex. We chose them because they are pet friendly, and we just walked in and got a good vibe, it was actually the first place we looked at. It was a nice complex, we had an end unit facing the woods which I recommend if you like extra quiet. It is typical apartment living with a mix of people but people there were nice that I met. I felt safe there after moving to a new place. They have a nice pool and a gym, pond to walk the dog around. You can easily walk to restaurants, bars, groceries.

You are wise to rent and give yourself time to look around. I would advise working the cost of breaking your lease early into your budget if you happen to find an awesome house before your lease is up. That is what happened to us, I thought we would be lucky to even find something in a year but we found our dream house (in dream location) in eight months. Just my two cents. Good luck!

You need to start looking about 45 days before you actually need to move. Reason being that people haven't given their 30 day notice yet.

There are condo rental communities in St Lucie West just off I95 - The Belmont or The Club. Most others are along US#1. There are also house rentals that include lawn and more.

Be aware that all these are yearly rentals - not short term.

I am so glad someone posted this, I am also searching to move to Port St. Lucie but in June. I am looking for a yearly rental, but I am not very familiar with the area. I am considering The Belmont or east lake villages town homes. Does anyone know how safe and quiet these rentals are? I have read the Belmont condominiums used to be apartments turned into condominiums so I am not sure about their quality or how parking would work.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

no.. it was condos turned in to apartments. 2 stories, some with garages otherwise you park outside. Each is individually owned.

Eastlake Village is just east of US#1- 2 stories.

Why not just rent a house?

Well,I will only be living in Port St. Lucie for about a year and a half, and I will have a roommate as well. We both work in the same field, and have been living in apartments since we started college. I figured an apartment would be cheaper, we would not have to worry about lawn care and could be inside a gated community, which I assume is usually safer?

Do you know anyone with experience living in The Belmont? and I do not mind parking outside, but I read somewhere that the parking can be difficult I am guessing because of space.

There are designated spaces and open "guest" spaces.

Right now the least expensive apt is $1000 and up for a 2 bedroom.

there is a 2/2 with a single car garage for -$1195 in Lake Charles lawn and cable included-gated
