My husband and I are about to retire and are ready to move out of Miami-Dade for a more laid back lifestyle. We have children and other relatives in the Northeast who welcome us to spend the summer months with them and the grandkids, so we're looking for another place to spend winters, perhaps longer, (anything but summers) on the east coast of Fl, starting north of Palm Beach and as far north as Jacksonville. Just looked at some reasonably priced places in Stuart, (good for location to PB airport), but was surprised that certain parts of Stuart and Jensen Beach are considered high risk for wildfires...we can (and have) any information on this would be helpful, such as how often property damage has occurred, along with any increase in homeowner insurance costs.
Any other places on east coast Florida to consider?

wildfire risk??? kind of odd since the only fires we have seen are the ones they set on purpose to clear out the undergrowth.

Jensen?? really? it's next to the water and I can't recall any place that actually HAS open areas to burn except the PRESERVES which are closed in by the city.

where are you seeing this? and how OLD is it?

We are again living in Miami Dade after trying to make it work in PSL and think if you like the laid back atmosphere you will like PSL. Honestly I think you have more of a problem in Miami Dade with wild fires than the PSL area because of the everglades. I only remember one fire a couple of years ago that closed I 95 for several hours. Brush fires can happen anywhere in the state where there are large open area. Florida has lots of lightning and the dry season is just around the corner.
