Treasure coast bound
Hi from MN, Hate it here and want to move to the Treasure coast. After lots of searching we think that the Vero beach, Sebashtian, Port Saint Lucie and also have considered closer to Orlando. we have two boys and are worried about the crime and schools near Orlando. We are both self employed, I am a hairstylist and my Husband owns a house painting business.Where is the best earning potential of these places? Schools good? We will most likely rent a home so we can really get the feel of the area but are pretty comitted to the move. We love Jensen Beach but don't really want to be that far down. Thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Vero Beach and Sebastian are on the Space Coast, not the Treasure Coast. Port St. Lucie is the Treasure Coast. Both Vero Beach and Sebastian are nice areas, Sebastian being a little more laid back. I don't have children so I can't help you in that area. IMO, Port St. Lucie is a very congested area.

I have been here for 5 yrs. Not sure about job market for hair stylist, try looking on craigs list. The paper for the Space Coast is Florida Today, you might be able to get some info from there.

sebastian is a great area to live, but it is hard to find jobs here. you can go online at tcpalm.com or floridatoday.com and see if jobs are listed in your field. a good hairdresser might be able to do okay, but there is not much construction currently so i am not sure about a house painter. maybe he could call house painting companies (like russell payne painting) and see if they are hiring for starters.

The Treasure Coast is Indian River County, St. Luice County, Martin County and the Treasure Coast Planning Commision includes Okeechobee County.
Sebastian and Vero are both in Indian River County...
Hair Stylists should have no problem finding employment... painters however will. The area currently is experiencing a extreme slow down in anything related to housing, and that would include painters.
Better employment opportunities for painters would be in area where housing starts are highest... and that isn't many.
Good luck in your new life along the Treasure Coast...

Do your homework before you move. Go on line and read the local papers to find out what is really happening in the area you are interested in. Don't believe all you get from the chamber of commerce.
You might really want to wait until your husband gets a job before moving. The previous post is correct on the housing market. Don't forget the pay scale is different down here. The cost of living isn't that different from up North. Lots of hair salons. Many of the jobs currently are for white collar professionals, engineers and medical.
Check the postings for info on Port St. Lucie. I understand them to be correct from the people that live there. I know several that are looking to leave. Not impressed with the schools.
I hope this helps you out.

Do you go to the same stylist regularly? Do you go a chain salon or independant? Does your stlist rent the station?
I SO appreciate your time.
