I know many of you will be heading out of town or will be extremely busy making wonderful meals, but I wanted to thank you for another great year. I really enjoy our conversations and learning from you all. We may not always agree with each other's thoughts and/or opinions, but this generally is a wonderful place for banter and news. May you all have a great holiday!!

Yes lets celebrate the raping and eventual destruction of the Native Americans.

For many Americans, Thanksgiving means turkey with all the fixings, spending time with family, and being grateful for the blessings of the year. But for many Native Americans , the holiday is a bit more complicated.
The introduction of European settlers to the Americas had a mostly tragic outcome for many indigenous communities. They lost land to people who distrusted and disrespected their way of life. They lost millions of people to territorial conflict, starvation and diseases brought from Europe. Their cultures were misunderstood, devalued and deemed inferior. Some think the traditional Thanksgiving narrative – generous Pilgrims, helpful Indians – implies Native Americans should be grateful about the events that led to their suffering.

Quote:
“We do a National Day of Mourning to talk about this and just to say, ‘You need to stop teaching this to your children, and having this false mythology,’” Munro said. “The idea is that the Pilgrims had this bountiful harvest and decided to share it and they invited the Native Americans and everybody lived happily ever after. The Native Americans definitely didn’t live happily ever after.”

I'm giving thanks that I'm still alive.

Happy Thanksgiving to those inclined to celebrate being thankful for loved ones being near and for all you've accomplished.

Enjoy your day!!

Part native here with many family members on the reservations. We as a family celebrate Thanksgiving. Family, friends, blessings are more than you could ever understand to celebrate. My grandma used to put on the biggest Thanksgiving on the farm. Miss that .

Happy Thanksiving to all. Hope you have a fun day with family and friends and if you are away from family make your own traditions to make it a special day wherever you are.

To our men and women in the armed forces and other first responders we think of you as always with love. Thank you for doing what you do.

It's truly one of the stupidest so called holidays in the way it's observed. We celebrate by killing many millions of innocent animals and eating them and then people stuff themselves with other "foods" For most people, this is just an excuse to overeat on dead animals. There is little discussion about what it really means. It's about as dumb as Valentines day.

Yes people- it may be a stupid occasion and idea, but I fully support it if it brings families and friends together- even for one day. I wish some people would not look so deep into things and take advantage of the opportunity to love and cherish the people that matter most to them. Sometimes all it takes is a day like Thanksgiving to help a family come together.

But I guess I choose to find the positive in the holiday. Try it- you might just like it!
