Cool Port St. Lucie ??

Just wondering what everyone's take is on the Port St. Lucie area? We have family there and are considering a move. We are currently in WV (born and raised) and I hate it here. No jobs, poor economy, highly uneducated, oppressive and nothing to do. Anyway, just want to hear pros and cons of this area...we think it is beautiful but wanted to hear from impartial sources, lol. Thanks~

No jobs and poor economy in PSL. A lot of unemployed people. Make sure you have a job before you move here.

Things looked good on internet. When we went there it was different. You must check out neighborhoods. ie: watch the school bus arrive. Also long way over intracoastal to beach not like south florida. I would suggest Melbourne area.

Low economic conditions exist everywhere, not just here in Port St. Lucie. It's all over the United States. If you are considering moving here, what kind of business are you in and what price home are you looking for? What are the things you like to do?

The area can be great for some business people, others communite to West Palm Beach. Just depends on what you do. Prices are higher in WPB so they live here. Our area is not "industry" driven. It's a pretty easy-going lifestyle.

A little more infomation please?

You're gonna have to drive to Palm Beach County for anything decent to do. You might as well as just stay in WV, larger yards and more space than PSL along with the same boring factors.

FlaLadyB~

Well, my husband is a fireman which limits his job search a little more than mine. I have a BS in business but have actually just been doing medical transcription where I am at now (not a lot of options here).

Housing range...not sure exactly...there is such a difference between here and there. I do know that my sis-in-law and family are getting ready to buy a house that they have found at a steal! I can't believe how much prices have went down just since we were there a year ago! We would probably rent for the first year or two just to make sure that we got into the right neighborhood for us.

I love it down there. I think it is beautiful, clean, new, tropical...all of the things that people love about Florida . My husband is concerned about the crime rate although from what I've researched and talked to our family down there I think the crime rate for you all is lower than it is here! What is your opinion on that?

Thanks again everyone for your input, lol, but there is no way that staying in WV beats being in FL, lol...

I personally don't find crime a problem here in PSL. Haven't run across any of it in 5 years of being here. Yes there are some minor areas I would not be in late at night, but they are just that, minor.

There are plenty of Dr offices here and 3-4 hospitals in the immediate areas as well for you. Fire dept, actually, they are building a new one here in Tradition down the street from my home. I know he will have to apply to whoever the powers that be for his job.
I also know that the local government is cutting back on some jobs too.

PCBoy said larger yards in Palm Beach County? Well.. not in PBCounty unless you are in the acreage or Jupiter farms. The average lot here -not in a community - is 80x100 or larger. Plenty of yard to mow! Houses are available for rent or purchase in all areas, and yes there are great buys available.

I said WV. Which is the abbreviation for 'West Virginia'. The yards are larger there (in WV, I did not say Palm Beach County) and it's just as boring as Port Saint Lucie. The only fun you're going to have is if you drive down to Palm Beach County.

Crime is not a problem in Port Saint Lucie, but I'm assuming it will be in a few years. It's just... boring and flavorless.

PBCboy,

I always here people saying its boring in PSL, what is there to do in WPB that is so much more fun???
i lived in MIAMI for sometime and beside going to the clubs and the beach when i was in my teens. there is really not much more of a difference where ever you live.
If you want to go have a drink, go to a restuarant plenty of them around in PSL. there's parks, there things always happening in TRIDITION. there's the mall, there car hangouts. the only thing i havent found in PSL is a real good beach. but i dont go that often anyways so who cares.
how much free time do you have that you'll be bored.

Superior shopping, better beaches, parks, events, down town, etc.

Port Saint Lucie can't touch any of that. I do like how PSL has larger yards though... but any charm (if there is any) the city has left will most likely be ruined by the wave of new people moving in.
