New York to Palm City Florida
My husband and I are thinking of moving to Palm City, Florida from New York. We are sick of the winters and taxes!! We have three children. I am worried about him finding work. Also curious if anyone else has made the move from New York recently. Any thoughts??

I hear you on the property taxes, crazy how expensive it is up there. That's one reason why we are moving from NC to FL instead of NY. Good luck!

What kind of work are you looking for? Please understand that there are virtually no jobs around.

Please make sure your husband has a job down here BEFORE you move. The economy in Florida is just as bad as it is everywhere else in the country. Also, if your husband has a good job in NY that he has been at for a while, he will have senority. If he changes jobs and that industry takes an economic hit, he will be low man in the layoff line.

Yes please make sure you do your research for the jobs. We use to live in palm city, I grew up there and love it very much. but we had to move to nc because my husband got a great job offer. He was in construction before and everyone down there knows how bad it is. I miss it very much but if your husband can get a great job then it is the perfect place to be. Palm City has some of the best schools in the state!!!

Agreed, the job outlook is grim. I know many NY people here and they love it, cheaper, better weather etc.. but they also had a job or were retired prior to coming down.
If your in a bad situation up north, my theory is, its better to be miserable in an area where you can be warm and go to the beach, but dont look for social services help in Florida, its just not here.

NY to Palm City
Does any one know anything about Highlands Reserve in Palm City. Is it fully developed yet? Are there families with children living there? What elementary and middle school would they attend? Any info would be appreciated.

The Highlands Reserve sits right next to I-95, the major interstate hwy through Martin County. It is not fully developed. It is beautiful, does have children living there, most notably a long time West Palm Bch newscaster & her family. It is a gated community. Hope that this helps.
