Communities without HOA fees
Some of you nice posters live in a community without HOA. That would be ok but I have concerns that maybe you could answer. I live in the Atlanta metro area and some communities have semi's, trucks, in the street, or have cars or boats on the back or front lawns. This is NOT what I am looking for. I want a nice neat newer neighborhoodl where everyone keeps up. Is it possible to find a neighborhoods like that and where are they? Don't mean to sound persnickety but I would rather live in a HOA community if that was the case. I'm just trying to get away without paying higher fees if I can. Thanks. Areas would be Port St. Lucie or Stuart.

Sure. There are towns that prohibit that sort of thing. Sewall's Point prohibits those things. So does Jupiter Island.

Even greater PSL prohibits that to a certain measure. If you want a "town" with strict ordinances, such as the ones lilybean suggested, that is very HIGH END real estate - millions. You may be better of with a HOA, POA community depending on the dollar amount you are looking to invest.
I live in a gaited community in St. Lucie County with POA fees. We pay $560 a qtr for security and common area maintenance with an additional $200 a year for a road fund. This does not include any maintenance of our personal home or land. Our home is NOT in the $million range. Just as an example

I am really surprised at how high the fees are. Here in Georgia a community that has an HOA (swimming pool and entrance landscaping care )runs anywhere from $300 to $600. per YEAR. oH WELL, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU GOTTA PAY. LOL.

Sorry Priscilla, that is only found here in an apartment community. I could be wrong, but I doubt it!
I forgot (cause I don't use it) my POA fees do include a pool and small workout room and a room you can rent for meetings.

Well stay off of California and that area around Crosstown expressway. I have a home just east of Tradition a couple of streets over from the Sheriff. If you go to the end of Savage you will run into it. The neighborhood has I would say 80% homes built after 1998 and is very nice. It is a mixed race neighborhood but is about as quiet as it gets. It is so quiet that you can actually hear the Armadillos snoring. I would say that at least 15 to 20 police officers live in the neighborhood. The biggest drawback to the neighborhood is actually one of it's strengths which is only one road in and out. There is a plan to connect with the back of Tradition but the bridge construction has not yet begun. (no not talking about that bridge). You can find some great deals in this neighborhood. I can't remember the street name but there is a brand new 3600 square foot two story home never been lived in house and the asking price is $250k. There are three newer homes on my street going for less than $200k and are all over 2000 square feet. If you come to the neighborhood obey the speed limit because you will get a ticket.

From what I have heard there are two Sheriff's in PSL. A police officer who lives in the neighborhood told me that it was where the sheriff lived. I will knock on his door and ask him.

In PSL - communities without HOA's- you WILL see boats and motorhomes, and anything else in front, side and backyards. An HOA has rules, PSL has lots with homes built on them and no rules.
Take your pick....

Thanks for all your info. Does anyone know if the town of Stuart has stricter guidelines as far as the city having special rulings on property use? Or is it the same with the non hoa communities there? I am open to different locals but I really don't want to pay those high HOA or POA fees if I can help it. Thanks for your help, everyone.
