which home builders should i avoid and which are recommended (foreclosure, landscaping)

Yeah stay away from those that are a vacation in an expensive car Wink Wink. The best advice is to seek out their homes and take an education tour around them. Go into the foreclosed ones they show the best picture of how they are really built.

Susan the owner and her staff are the best. We went thru every model during the boom and always came back to Gem.

I couldn't find one homeowner that wasn't satisfied with their house and I knocked on a lot of Gem built doors.

We wound up buying a foreclosure in a gated community instead of building on our lot but if we do build, Gem would be our first choice.

We almost bought an Aburton home...they give tons of "standard" upgrades, full landscaping package, brick paver driveway, the works. You got to pick tile for each room, each room could be a different carpet/color, it was a really good deal. A littleout of our price range at the time and not sure if they still offer this deal but they did about 4 years ago.
