Sr Citizen moving to Vero Beach area
I"m a senior citizen on fixed income.. I'm moving permanently to the Vero Beach area in early Nov. 2009. I'm looking for a decent & reasonable apt complex.. I'm not particularly wanting a 55+ community but won't rule one out.. Any info that anyone could offer I would appreciate it..

Look at apartmentratings.com theres alot of comments about the complexs some not so nice but others are great. My honest opinion would be to check out renting a house. Alot of the apartments in Vero are income restricted. Also check out condos you can get a great condo cheap. You can also check out realtor.com they have apartments condos and houses for rent and theres places for every budget good look with your search.

Vero Beach isn't really a rental community. When it comes to renting here you need to think outside of the box. Rent a condo or a house.

My husband and I are also looking to move to Vero Beach or Port St. Lucie. We are in our early 60's. How do these two communities compare? We are looking to move in the next 2 months.

Actually you should be looking at 55+ condos since the residents are more reliable and the properties better maintained. Try a private rental at Vista Gardens or Vista Royale on south Route 1. They are around 3 miles from the causeway to the beach. YOu can even buy one now for around 30.000 and they're very nice communities. Vista Gardens is the nicer of the two with better landscaping and Vista Royale's golf course is a bit rough lately...but Vista Garden's is a bit more money. They both have small golf courses even though they aren't giant complexes. Shopping is right up the street and there's a community bus if you don't want to drive al the time that goes everywhere.
Otherwise, all the major complexes seem ok from the outside. There are two on Indian River Blvd I forget the names, and two behind the mall around 26th or 27th that are peaceful and nice looking.
check realtor dot com for individual rentals. there are several. For vista Gardens or Vista royale. Vista gardens has fancy mature beautiful landscaping because they used to be part of the botanical gardens next door...McKee. ....You can also rent there short term especially off season, I know several people who rent their units out. Annual or seasonal or short term......YOu can pay as little as 400 per month for a 650 sq foot. Look for the streets called woodland drive, vista palm ln, vista gardens trail, royal oak ct....and many others all in 32962. They look like barracks from the outside but that's the style here in many condos. The photos are wierd because the view isn't where the door is so you're seeing the catwalk where you walk in at first. Some have one bedroom and some have two and the porches will be either single or double matching the number of bedrooms. Both have active clubhouses with alot of people participating and snowbirds....I'd move there and I'm picky. LOL. I bought a condo down the street in Grove Isle that I love but I don't think we allow rentals long term but I'm not sure.

I see my neighborhood on realtor dot com so I guess they allow longer term rentals. I know there's a 6 month minimum. Two br for 800. You should move here, I can't say enough good things about it. Impeccably maintained and the people are all nice and we have a 50 acre nature park on the Intracoastal. I'll dm you my agent's name if you want.

55 + in Vero Beach means age 70 + as we have an older population here. I'd go with a conventional neighborhood. You'll still find plenty of people in their early 60's. Best of luck with your move!
