Who would compare Vero, a low density beach city of 17.000 population to Atlanta with 500.000 in 131 sq miles? We have exactly one high rise if you wanna call it that ( on the beach, the condo building that caused the zoning to be changed to prohibit them)...
In fact, I don't think any city in FL has 500,000 except Jax which is an anomaly since the boundaries were broadened to merge two counties into a "city" years ago. And something like 835 sq miles so again, no comparison with Atlanta.

Oh, and Outlet stores.
I would normally suggest moving to Stuart/Jensen Beach so you can be closer to Palm Beach County if going out and shopping is your thing, but Vero Beach is far from the Southern Treasure Coast. Maybe Melbourne would be a more happening place?

Why in God's name would someone wanna live in MELBOURNE and commute to Vero? That's a good hour. 45 min if you max out the speed limit and don't run into traffic etc.
What does Melbourne even have to offer? No offense to Melbourne but come on....just some random culture, slightly bigger mall and the same beach only sharing it with 76,000 people.
Vero Beach is much more than "a movie theater". How about it's own art museum, theater and great parks, water access....SPOTLESS beach and boardwalk/access...
If Vero were "a movie theater" I highly doubt that it would attract the large amount of wealth that it does. Remember? Comparable to Palm Beach. The real Palm Beach not the neighboring WPB.

Find it hard to believe from Melbourne to Vero is an hour and 45 min. I drive from Brevard county to Stuart in an hour and 15 min.

First I want to thank everyone who took time to respond to my post. I do want to say though I didn't duplicate the post, I simply asked a different question since I now know where my husband will be stationed. Not sure why this should even be important. I have done research on Vero Beach but I was hoping someone could help us narrow down several areas before consulting a realtor. I found this site very helpful when I relocated from Miami to Atlanta by people providing us with zip codes and names of subdivisions. If anyone can help us with that kind of information I would greatly appreciate it since we don't have much time. One neighborhood in PSL that i thought seemed lovely is Traditions. Is there any master planned community in Vero similar?

The only thing I can think of similar to Tradition up that way is Viera, but Viera would be a longer commute than commuting from Tradition. Tradition is 30 minutes away.... might be a doable commute. Tons of shopping and restaurants, another 40 minutes from the Palm Beaches......

The OP appears to want a bigger city feel - "plenty of restaurants and shopping." I'm trying to give them other options. It's hard, though, anywhere on the TC to compare to big cities. You don't move to the TC on purpose because you want big city amenities.

Barrier Islands attached to "Quiet" communities are very common. Jupiter Island, which leaves most anything else in FLorida in the dust in terms of property values, is bordered by (and shares a zip code) with Hobe Sound... which is a strip of cute little restaurants, two strip plazas, and three street lights. Hobe Sound is a cute place to live, though... but I wouldn't call it happening.
Palm Beach, Miami Beach, etc. attract different crowds - not the "quiet rich, but the conspicuous consumption, "run around rich" as my ex's mother used to call them, lol.

Thanks for the advise. I'll check in Traditions. We currently live in the suburds of Atlanta about 35 miles from the city in a small town so we're trying to find something similar. This city is pretty much contained so we don't have to venture out to downtown Atlanta for shopping or dining. Traditions looks similar to where we live now so I'll start by there. Thanks again

I lived in Stuart, what do you mean by traffic maze? I thought it was fairly easy to get around.
