Default 500 new jobs may be added to Port St. Lucie

From todays news - Oct 7, 2009

PORT ST. LUCIE — Aegis Communications Group may be relocating its Treasure Coast business across town and adding 500 jobs to its local call-center workforce.

Aegis employs about 400 at its location on U.S. 1, north of Jennings Road in Port St. Lucie, handling calls for companies such as Travelocity, Avis Rent A Car and Carnival Cruise Lines.

The new location for Aegis would be across the street from Tradition Field and down the road from QVC Inc., Bray said.

In January, Liberty Medical Supply in Port St. Lucie announced it would add 800 new workers to the 1,500 it already has at its U.S. 1 facility

Good news for lower skilled workers.

Wasn't there a story about some animation firm coming to the Tradition area a couple months back? What's the update on that?

I would add that the workers would need to be "skilled" and good luck to all those who apply...

I didn't mean it to be derogatory. My brother has worked for years at a call center while going to IRSC, and yes, actually, I DID work at QVC in PSL for a while in college.

While every job requires some level of SKILL, call center (telemarketing, and customer service jobs, which are Aegis' specialty) do NOT require specialized training or skills beyond the ability to speak and type at the entry, non-managerial level.

(Granted, some people lack both).

Not going to happen, according to Aegis.
