Hi everyone, I'm new to City-Data.com & in need of info (aren't we all?!?)
It is a good possibility that our family of 3, my husband, self and 13 year old son might be moving over to the Port St. Lucie area. We have live in Lake County, Florida the past two years. My main concern, of course, is schools. Our son, will be entering 8th grade this fall. I have been reading the comments about Port St. Lucie and Martin County schools. He is attending a school now that is way overcrowded (1400 students for only a 6-8 grade) and too much emphasis is put on the FCAT here also. He is a straight A student and is in advanced math, etc. When we moved here from a smaller school in the Midwest the adjustment was very hard for him. He has adjusted to the area now but if we move again we are looking for a smaller school that would offer advanced classes and to him the lunch menu if very important Is there such a place? What about the other surrounding counties, just asking because I know nothing of the area. By the way, my husband's job is one in which he would be traveling throughout the county so we are flexible in where we choose to live. Thanks for anyone's advice.

I have always heard excellent things about Martin county schools. They always test high. I have very little personal knowledge but if word of mouth means anything, I would say they are some of the best. St. Lucie County schools are a hit and miss. Some are good, others are deplorable.

I do not have kids in either of these school districts, so please take my advise in the spirit it was given. Word of mouth only.
