Default Teaching Jobs in Martin County?

Hi, my husband's job is relocating us to Stuart, Florida. I currently teach third grade in Alaska. I will be in the market for a teaching position in Florida around January 2010. Does anyone know how the teaching job market is down there right now? I hear it's pretty nasty...hiring freezes, etc. I already have a teaching cert for the state of Florida, so I'm ready to go in that department. I'm hoping that if I can't find something right away, that I'll AT LEAST secure a position for the 10-11 school year. Any advice or information on the teaching job market? Thanks for you input!

Contact the school board in Martin County. Teaching jobs are tough to get. Schools are closing in St. Lucie and Palm Beach, and there are more teachers than jobs. A lot of teachers try to get a foot in the door as a sub or teaching assistant.

I am very very familiar with schools in Stuart, and all
I would say is check each schools job board and make contacts
over the phone. There are serious budget cuts and it wont be easy.
Being aware of education in a few states the 'system' in Florida will
wear you down, eventually. I dont know how Alaska is but here it is ponderous.
The FCATS have pretty much wrecked education as we know it.

On a brigher note, Stuart is one of my favorite Florida towns.
Developers have only mildly wrecked it even though they are trying
hard for total devastation and ruin, ala PBC-Broward-Dade.
If we stay here (doubtful) it will be in Stuart. The Stuart schools
system is waaaay less scary and rated better than West Palm Beach's, too. Try to stay in Martin County with your apps.

Best of luck

Sounds like it will be tough to find something right away. I guess I'd better get in "waiting tables" mode! I might have to do that for a while 'til I can find a school who's hiring. Thanks for the info!
