Possible move to Portland
Hi everyone: I am thinking of a possible move to Maine, the Portland area sometime in late 2008 probably. I am going to Portland in 2 weeks for a few days to get a feel for the city. I have heard wonderful things about it and am looking forward to the trip. Anyway I am starting to do my research and I would be looking for a small house in the $250-300,000 price range, preferably in the mid $200's would be nice. I don't need anything fancy just something nice that I could call my own. I also would not be bound to Portland city itself, so my question to you wonderful Mainers is can you name a few towns that are within 20 miles or so of Portland that are nice communities? And do you think it would be possible to find a house in my price range? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hi Steve,
You can do quite well in this price range in Portland or the surrounding communites such as South Portland, Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, Gorham, Westbrook, Windham, Falmouth, Cumberland, Yarmouth and Freeport.

I highly recommend Scarborough. I loved living there. It was an easy commute into Portland for work and has its own beaches.

thanks so much for the quick replies! I will check out the suggested towns. I had heard about Falmouth and Freeport, that they were great towns within commuting distance to Portland, but its nice to have a few other towns to check out as well. thanks again!
