Default What do private tutors in Portland suburbs charge?

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are planning a move (hopefully soon) to one of the suburbs of Portland. (We're thinking of Gorham.) Does anyone know what a private tutor (for reading and/or writing) makes per hour? I have NY certification in elementary education and also literacy specialization. I'm working on getting the Maine certificates. If I can contribute enough to our income doing some tutoring, I'd like to do it. I'm assuming certain areas like Falmouth and Yarmouth would pay more. Just trying to get a clue about what tutors up there charge. Anyone know??? Thanks for any info.

Hello souris8,

Welcome to the Maine forum. I checked a poplular online "list" site for Greater Portland and see the going rate seems to be $15 to $25 an hour. Gorham is a fantastic town, we've lived here since 2003.

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear that Gorham is as nice as we thought. Hopefully we will get there soon.

We are looking for a reading tutor in Gorham for our 8 year old granddaughter for a couple of afternoons after school. Have you relocated to Gorham yet?
