We are in the city. We needed to be in the middle of things as my husband is mostly blind and can not drive. Asking for rides from me all the time was grating on him and with the addition of #5 my time was getting less available. I am not glad that we have the circumstance to deal with that led us here but as I would not have ever lived in a city by choice prior to this I am glad to have been pushed out of my comfort zone. I love it here and wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
Well, it sounds like you have your hands quite full. Sorry about your husband - but it sounds like you are a person to see the proverbial glass "half full," and have found a new, wonderful home for your family in Portland. Did you come from rural Maine or elsewhere? We are from Los Angeles and are looking to find a smaller, slower paced, less congested, slightly more traditional spot for our family. BTW, I did an internet search for the King Middle School BC thing - ummmm, interesting... MJ

We came from a very rural part of Maryland. I had lived in a variety of types of places but I hadn't lived in a city since Philadelphia as a very young child. If you are coming from LA Portland will seem like a small town to you I suspect.

As far as being the glass half full type. I guess I generally am that but it is my husband who is amazingly upbeat. He doesn't let anything hold him back.
