Default homes in cape elizabeth

Wow, awesome forum! What a find!

I'm new to the group. We are planning to move to Maine next year. Right now we're in Minneapolis. I'm from Maine (Sebec) and my husband is from Mexico (the country!) and we have four kids. I really enjoyed the Maine photos posted! I was going to post a link to a few photos from Sebec Lake, West End in Portland, and Borestone Mountain but I can't figure out how to do it here.

Anyway, we have zeroed in on Cape Elizabeth as the area that we think best suits our family. I saw on a thread from last year that someone said houses in the Cape are hard to come by and to find a house in a good neighborhood you might have to go by word of mouth. I see there are a number of homes listed on realtor.com. Are houses still really going that fast there? We need a fairly large place because my husband needs a home office (plus there are those four children...) Any Cape dwellers out there? Is it really that hard to find a house? Of course if you've got unlimited dough I'm sure it's no problem, but we'd like to find something in the neighborhood of 500,000.

Thank you!

Hi, I was Just down there last week looking homes and went to some open houses. 500k should do you fine depending how much you want. Go to google maps and zero in on the "Shore road" that goes along the ocean and "Portland Head Light". Quite a few nice neighborhoods there with unmatched location. You can walk to the headlight.!! The prices can go pretty high but I think you would do fine in the 500k range +-. There seemed to be quite a few places for sale so I wouldn't be pressed for time. I think there will be some real deals next spring. So if I was thinking Cape elizabth thats where I would look!

Thank you so much for your replies! It does seem to be a different market from when I first started looking at the homes listed in C.E. four years ago. But then I guess that's how it is everywhere.

I don't think Cape has any bad neighborhoods. Now is a great time to be a buyer pretty much anywhere.

I agree....and one thing we know, waterfront, or nearly waterfront, is going to continue to climb in price!

If there is nothing in MLS under $500,000 I bet there is tons of FSBO (For Sale By Owner)

If the houses are that expensive and there is a large need for them, people are not going to pay a real estate agent $15,000 when they can just sell it on thier own and pocket the money.
