Default Snowfall in the Area Around Portland

How much snowfall is there in the average winter in Portland and within 30 miles of Portland?

The NCDC shows that Portland gets approximately 70" of snowfall (including sleet) per year. The highest snowfall months are January with approximately 19" and December with approximately 15". Snowfall in coastal towns within 30 miles of Portland will see similar totals while areas inland will see a few inches more per month.

Does it accumulate or does it get warm enough to melt between snowfalls? I'm hoping to be able to do some snowshoeing or cross-country skiing when I move there.

I doubt you'll have problems finding places to go. The snow generally does not melt until April or so, not between storms (generally). Just keeps accumulating. Enjoy the snowshoing. I'm looking forward to getting DW out again this year.

It seems like no two consecutive years are alike, but in general...

October and November snow may melt off. Or it may not. But by December, it's usually cold enough that snow sticks around. But there are years where it doesn't even snow at all till January.

No harem here. LOL. I just pass on what I was told a few years ago.
