We currently live in Chicago. Given the current financial conditions of both the city and state, we thought we'd better prepare to move elsewhere. After a lot of research and thought, we are strongly considering Portland, Maine. Unfortunately, this is all bad timing for our family because our sons are in 10th and 8th grade. We definitely want to let out oldest finish out high school here because he has Autism, and his school is a really good fit. We had thought that the youngest might not mind moving in the middle of high school (and it would be up to him). But comparing the public schools that he is most likely to attend here with Portland HS there or even some of the private schools in the area, I am rethinking that. Where are the CS and programming courses? I know there are programming jobs there. Somebody just posted about them on this board, and I have been watching for openings myself since I am a programmer. Why aren't the local businesses pushing/sponsoring the schools to offer classes? Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I looked through the Portland course catalog, and I couldn't find any reference to CS. I also glanced a some of the local private schools (which I would really prefer to avoid), and I didn't see anything there either.

Please tell me if I am missing something. (I do know that Portland has two other public schools. They don't have their catalogs online, and they appear to be pretty far from downtown.)

Thanks!

Wendy

Best thing to do is call the school and ask?
