How do you "deal with the liberals"??? Are you that caught up in politics and other people's lives? Seriously, I never understood people's obsession with "liberals".....or "conservatives" for that matter. My life is too busy to worry about the politics of Maine......it's pretty sad that there are those out there that have nothing better to do than to whine and obsess about this crap. At least Bill O'Reilly and Rachel Maddow get paid to do that.

Small minded individuals have a hard time comprehending much beyond what they're spoon fed by the media. Unfortunately for conservatives, they only have one news channel with one set of people spouting the same propaganda. Liberal stuff is just as bad, but at least they've got 4 sets/channels.

LePage isn't despicable because of his political party. He's despicable because he likes to pick and choose (often the least important) when it comes to issues to pursue. He likes to be heavy handed and threatening (still waiting on those voter passed bonds for state projects, which legally he can't hold up like he is, but nobody will stand up because they'll be threatened right away).

He is in general just a negative person.

As for him being elected twice, that's the fault of our three way elections and somebody not dropping out. Anyone I meet who voted for the democrat lady back when LePage was originally elected I quickly inform they helped LePage take office. Cutler lost by something like 5,000-10,000 votes, Mitchell never stood a chance.

No need to be scared of LePage.......unless he gets real hungry and you are the only person in the room.

Half of Maine's population is negative so it stands to reason that they are attracted to like individuals.

I asked this before, and nobody answered. Given the popularity of independent candidates in Maine, is there any talk of requiring a candidate to win at least 50% of the vote or requiring a run-off?

I'm hoping to move to Portland with my family in a few years, and independent politics seems like a plus, although it sounds like elections are still held as if it were a 2 party system.

Thanks.

There is a movement afoot to institute "second choice" voting. There are people at the polls every election season, asking for signatures. I signed. But it hasn't happened yet.

Maine has had Independent governors in the past, and currently has an Independent Senator, Angus King. They aren't the solution to the problem, but they are a good salve.

I left Maine because LePage scared me. I thought I would die(because of numerous health problems)if I stayed because of the direction he's taken the state in. It did save my life because I got medical help I wasn't getting in Maine.

Miss living in Maine though. The St. John valley is the most beautiful place on earth.

Oh well, I cannot move to Maine anyhow, (from Connecticut) despite how I feel about LePage, because housing is too expensive, and scarce. I am kind of freaked out by the statistic that almost twice as many people work for Walmart in the US as live in Maine. It also seems boring. I am desperately searching for evidence to the contrary, but coming up dry so far.... so I think the family and I are going to stay put, and husband will commute on the weekends. Literally, that is a less expensive option. We cannot find a house as nice as the one we have in Connecticut, and to find one even close to comparable in Maine would run about 200k more.

In Maine housing is too expensive, as compared to Connecticut?

That is very odd.

We have seen many nice homes in Maine starting at $80k.

Our last home in Connecticut was far more expensive than comparable properties here. [We have looked]

I am not sure why you want to compare one of the world's largest corporations to a rural state.

Walmart is huge. Maine is rural. Salmon are a fish. What are you thinking this means?

There are 21 states with lower populations than Ct has; and 9 states with lower populations than Me has.

Yeah. I didn't get it, either. Some nice shacks up in Milo pretty cheap. Overpriced properties sit. Never should be afraid to make an offer. Although I just got off the phone with someone in Portland that said that market is going nuts right now, and he may sell his house just because it seems to be peaking.
