Currently living in CT. I am thinking of moving to NH or ME. I have only been to Maine and New Hampshire once. I love New Hampshire for it's proximity to 3 other States, low taxes, milder winters than ME from what I hear, higher hourly rate for nurses, and closer to Boston MA.

Maine especially Portland offer what I feel is lower cost of living then any of the New England States. Portland has a few options for higher education. Know Maine Medical has a good reputation. Maine does have a high income tax, but heard you start to be taxed at an X amount.

They both have an abundant amount of outdoor options to escape life. Have family in Portsmouth and Camden Maine; so Portland puts me in the middle and Portsmouth makes me closer to one family member.

Which State you believe has better healthcare facilities and higher education institutions New Hampshire or Maine?

The best medical facility in New Hampshire is the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, near the VT line, with Dartmouth College nearby. Not a bad community at all, but perhaps a bit isolated..

In Maine, the best is likely the Maine Medical Center, in Portland, which now has ties with Tufts Medical School in Boston. Another major medical center is the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, two hours north of Portland.

Maine has better institutions of higher ed, especially when considering Bowdoin, Bates, and Colby Colleges, and the University of Maine is a decent school, with fairly-low tuition rates. NH has Dartmouth College, and UNH, but not a whole lot more...

I am from CT and I found cost of living in the Portland area to be much higher. I'd love to hear more about why you think the cost of living in Portland is less than other New England states.

If you're a nurse I would think it all depends on where you can actually get a job.
