Well Boston does have the Back Bay.
Here's the word on the street:
Back Bay Towers was a project similar to Unity Village. It was supposed to mix basic apartments with penthouse suites; low income/subsidized housing with full market-price rentals all in one building. I am not sure who came up with this idea as I can't imagine why anyone who could afford $2,000+ a month for rent would want to share a building with people who pay rent with a government voucher; but landlords around here don't seem to give a rat's behind who rents the place as long as the rent gets paid.
Anyways, there was much anticipation for this project and many people seemed to dig the idea.
Sometime towards the end of construction the project ran out of money, yet the developers were somehow able to slap together the remaining bits that needed finishing and because of this Back Bay ended up opening it's doors to not quite the hoo-ha it had hoped; many units went unoccupied for long periods of time and the place got a reputation for kind of being a joke.
There are some people who claim that BBT is totally awesome, while others say that it is a cheap piece of cr*p that is not worth what they are asking for rent.
My personal opinion, though, is that if you can get a unit with a decent price then the place might not be that bad.
