How is the social scene in Portland for someone in their mid-20's?
How is the social scene for someone in their mid-20's? I will be moving to Portland after college unattached from the west coast for a really nice jon, and am a little concerned with Portland being relatively small compared to Seattle (where I am now.)

I hope you meant "job".
Portland is rural compared to Seattle, but it has a nice social scene. Mainers are more outdoorsy, even in cities.

My brother moved out to Seattle after graduating from Maine Martime Academy, he said the cities have very much the same feel. He also met many other Mainers while living out there and has met plenty of people from Seattle since moving back to Portland 12 yrs ago.
I have 2 kids in their 20's, they love the Portland night life. You'll do fine in the Portland scene. However do not expect the big clubs like other big cities. Portland offers more of the bar and pub types of places. My kids find plenty of enjoyment there.
Good luck with your new job!

In my late 30's here with kids so I don't do the same kind of social scene things you would do as I am chained to my house and #$!!*& minivan but, the art and music scene here is vibrant and I would have had a great time here 20 years ago. I have a great time now, just different. Oh and they have an Ultimate Frisbee league here and Roller Derby, so that works too.

I have been to Seattle several times and the cities are very similar in every aspect that I have encountered.

The cities are fairly similar, with one major exception.....Portland is about 1/100th of the size of Seattle. Maybe even smaller.

I lived in Portland from 1967 until 1998. The social scene is excellent for any young person. There are tons of places to listen to music, dance, have some drinks, go to college, play sports, dine on boats or with candlelight, watch pro baseball and hockey, and see concerts.
There are lots of singles who go out seven nights a week. Portland proper has about 65,000, but I believe the greater Portland area is around 250K.
Have a good time.

There are tons of place to go out in the Old Port, which can be a pretty ridiculous scene on the weekends (in good and bad ways). I grew up in the area so the high school reunion aspect is a bit of a turnoff, but coming "from away" you won't have that disadvantage. There is something for everyone, pubs, sports bars, music clubs, hipster hang outs and yes, even some places to go out dancing. Plus it is really cheap. I live in D.C. now and $5 Scudweisers at the neighborhood bar make me long for sub $4 shipyards in P-Town.
