Pat's is the BEST! I've just ordered a pork roast from them for my arrival on the 24th. (special request from my son, a real home cooked meal)
Also, try dinner upstairs! It's really great, pretty casual. Great food and service. My brother and sister live on Clinton St, across from Pat's. We go there often. Convenient within walking distance and fairly reasonable prices. The menu is exquisite!

^Thanks! I want to try a meal there sometime. In fact, I think about it each time I drive by. Good to know it's well liked!

If you find yourself near Topsham take the time to find Bisson's on route 201. Without doubt the best aged Delmonico steak in the area... bar none!

I owned a house on the street just as you turned onto Meadow Rd before Bissons Farm and Meat Mrkt. I used to walk out to the end of my road and look at those cows out there grazing everyday. I'm hugely passionate about cows. I love them. There's no way I could have driven up the road and gone in and bought something to eat that I use to sit and watch all day.
Now after they had just spread chicken crap all over their fields and the smell of that lovely stuff wafted down my way..... OMG! Close the windows!
Funny story, I had driven by one of their fields one night after dark and noticed a deer inside the fenced off fields. I watched the doe trying to find her way out of the fenced in field for quite a while. She seemed a little panicky. I finally drove out onto the edge of the field trying to shine my headlights so she could find her way out. (ya, I'm kinda dumb that way) Next thing you know, every Bisson boy (and there were many of them) had my truck surrounded by theirs. 6 BIG pickups, 2 men per truck, all headlights on me. They were pi$$ed, I have no idea what they THOUGHT I was doing out there. But when I explained to them my reason for driving onto their field and shining my headlights out there.... they laughed, scratched their heads and walked off after assuring me that the deer that had jumped over the fence to get in, would most likely find her way to jump back over it to get out again too. No duh?

It's nice out that way. Far enough out of town to be farmish but close enough for daily needs. Great meat market though. You'll be happy to know that alot of their beef is NOT raised there. It's Westrern beef. There is a place in Pownal that I always see deer in grazing with the cows. A cow fence is nothing to a deer!

It was a little embarrassing! I had gone to school with most of those Bisson boys.

YES TIM, I know that a deer can jump out but I thought it had become disoriented. I knew that some of the local kids had a little patch of something else growing out that way and thought the deer might have eaten it! You should have seen it running and pacing looking for a way out.
Meadow Rd all the way out to and beyond Bowdoin Center is nice. I also owned a house out in West Bowdoin before that. That was a little too far for daily trips to town. It was actually closer to Litchfield, nuthin' out there.
