Has anyone been into that Gallery Sarajo? (Portland, Eastport: condo, live in)

So walking down Congress you see a new gallery/antiques store named Sarajo. What is it? I ventured inside to find a couple of fellas staring me down as I looked at the obnoxiously overpriced items. I'll call it a store with obnoxiously overpriced items. I am an artist, so I may not dress " classy". Why do people in Portland care so much what you wear entering their stores? For Pete's sake, the owner( if he was) of the gallery was wearing flip flops and camo cargo pants...and apparently since he has money it's an okay look. Anyways, does Portland really need a highbrow antiques dealer straight from New York? I'm not sure. Please venture in and tell me what you think of the place. It really is a great space though, and gives Congress a different look, just not sure how it helps the economy.

Don't worry places like that come and go around here. Regardless what the experts will tell you the ecomomy is slowing down in Maine rapidly. There is going to be less money to burn on frivoulos nonsense soon and those who continue to do so will become ostracized.

That's interesting, Maineah. It figures that if the economy really is on the skids (and I believe it is, for however long), it would show up in Maine first, where there are fewer people, rather than down here in the greater population density of RI. On the surface, life continues as usual here, but if you take the time to really look, you see more folks driving old junks on the roads (next to big shiny new SUVs!) and the occasional city kid walking around with a sandwich sign, looking for "work". I'd give him some work with a shovel and post-hole digger, and he wouldn't last the day!

If you live in Eastport and feel that 'the economy is slowing down in Maine rapidly', that is worth knowing - for a variety of reasons for us. Thanks!

Maineah hit it right on the nose- those types of places will come and go. All sorts of places have sprung up over the years in the Old Port and downtown Portland only to, in most cases, thankfully disappear.

Off topic here but is that unique condom shop still in business in the Old Port? We had fun poking around there last year. Now that is an original store

LOL- was there any pun intended there? I have no idea if it's still there but I do remember being just a little embarrased walking through the door and hoping I wouldn't run into anyone I knew. We went in out of curiosity, of course. That place was a hoot! Who knew?

I haven't been in but it is still there. I'm always out with small children or worse, teenagers. I'll have to check it out solo sometime.
