Hey MRV.. thanks for your reply! My wife is a physical therapist, so I figured she'd be the "bread winner" if we moved to Camden - lots of healthcare type stuff up there.

anyway... thanks again for your input!

The Portland area has alot of healthcare as well. Two large competing hospitals and definately alot of physical therepy. My son recently has shoulder surgery is doing physical therepy, my wife and oldest daughter have been as well. Check the Portland Press Herald website for all the job opening.

Scarborough would be a good choice for that.

My wife and I are considering Cape Elizabeth. I'm wondering if anyone knows how we'll be received there as she is Thai and I'm white.
That's a hard question but as far as I can tell the Portland area is very diverse from a Maine perspective and very accepting. I do know there are a ton of Thai restaurants and an awesome Thai market with incredible take out is one of our fav places.

My brother-in-law is engaged to a Thai girl who works in the payroll dept of the city of Portland. The whole family really digs her, especially when she brings her Thai food to family gatherings.

Hi Everyone,
Well, we never made our move yet, we are still in Long Island. My husband did get an offer in Portland but turned it down. We are going to wait one more year and hopefully he can can a better offer. Our main concern with moving up there is being able to make a living, the house prices and taxes were a little less than Long Island but the salaries are a lot less. We've thought about a lot of areas of the country and we always come back to Southern Maine. Portland is a great little city and the surrounding towns are beautiful. I think we would have so many great places to explore when we make our move. I think it is a lot like LI used to be also. I was born and raised on LI and want a change of environment (it's getting way too crowded here, the city keeps moving farther and farther east).

We never made a final decision between Cape or Falmouth and still would most likely choose one of those towns. After all our research I was leaning towards Cape Elizabeth but I think we would be happy in either place.

My son is an excellent baseball and football player. We plan to move when he starts HS. Which towns are baseball and football oriented? How sports active is Falmouth and Yarmouth?

Falmouth and Yarmouth are very sports involved as I assume most large HS's in the country. As mentioned before Falmouth has a national rep for soccer and Yarmouth is very big into both nordic and alpine skiing,

Regarding football all the schools that have been mentioned in this thread recently started football but it's gathering a large head of steam. Cape is big on lacrosse. Hockey is also strong at all the schools.
